NIA Raids 17 Places In J&K In Case Related To Banned Islamist Outfit Jamaat-e-Islami

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has carried out raids at 17 locations across seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in relation to a case against the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). The Islamic organization was banned in 2019.
The raids have been conducted in connection to an illegal funding case that was registered earlier this year.
“The case was registered by NIA in February this year in connection with separatist and secessionist activities of JeI, an unlawful association under the UA(P) Act even after its proscription in February, 2019,” the official statement from the NIA read, as reported by the Economic Times.
They added, “The members of the organisation have been collecting funds domestically and abroad which are being used for violent and secessionist activities.”
The JeI has been encouraging Kashmiri youths and hiring new members to take part in secessionist activities.
Several incriminating documents and electronic devices were confiscated from the premises of the suspects during the searches carried out by the NIA.
Back in 2019, hundreds of JeI members and sympathisers were arrested, probed and detained after the outfit was banned.
