A Mumbai Court today issued a non-bailable warrant against liquor baron Vijay Mallya. The warrant has been forwarded to the United Kingdom for his extradition back to India.
Mallya faces multiple cases of money laundering, including a case of defaulting on a loan worth Rs. 700 crore from the State Bank of India (SBI). India had placed an extradition request with the UK earlier this month for Mallya, as well as 60 others. In return, the UK had given of list of 17 people for extradition.
This follows the recent visit of UK Prime Minister Theresa May to India where the two countries had mutually agreed not to allow criminals to escape and honour each others extradition requests.
Earlier this month, SBI had written-off Mallya’s loan, stirring quite a ruckus among the opposition.
