Nothing To Hide: Modi Government Provides Rafale Deal Documents Post Supreme Court Order

Complying with the order given by the Supreme Court, Union Government on Monday, 12 November handed over Rafale documents to the petitioners who had earlier asked the CBI to probe into the matter. These documents contain reasons behind why the government went ahead with the deal and decided to procure the aircrafts.
The documents claim that the Defence Procurement Procedure (2013) had been duly followed and that the procurement had met the approval of the Defence Acquisition Council, Economic Times reported.
After the Indian Negotiating Team had been constituted, talks for acquisition of Rafale went on for a year and then sought approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security.
The Supreme Court had asked the Centre to place before it in a sealed cover the pricing details of 36 Rafale fighter jets that India is buying from France, within ten days of its order. In case the government wanted to maintain exclusivity in the documents, the apex court had asked it to file an affidavit in that matter.
Among the petitioners, some of the prominent names are Arun Shourie, Prashant Bhushan, Yashwant Sinha and AAP MP Sanjay Singh.
