Odisha’s First Water Desalination Plant To Be Set Up At Paradip; Will Process 10 Million Litres Of Seawater A Day

Even as several parts of the nation are gripped in a water shortage crisis, the state of Odisha is all set to get its first desalination plant in Paradip district with a capacity of processing 10 million litres of seawater for use by local households, reports The Hindu Businessline.
The plant, which is targeted to be commissioned by 2021, will be built at a cost of Rs 116 crore. In this respect a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Paradip Port Trust (PPT) and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in Chennai.
The tender for the ambitious project is set to be floated this year, and would eventually help augment and address the water scarcity in the port township at Paradip, especially during the peak summer season.
The chief engineer of the Paradip Port Trust said, “The first-of-its-kind drinking water venture in the State by PPT is a landmark project.”
