Olympic gold medal-winning U.S swimmer Klete Keller was charged by the Justice Department Wednesday with participating in the January 6 attack on Congress by supporters of President Donald Trump, AP reported.

An FBI complaint, citing screenshots from the video, asked that a warrant be issued charging Keller with knowingly entering a restricted building to impede an official government function, disorderly conduct, and obstructing law officers during the frightening ordeal.

Keller, who's six-foot-six, was seen on video wearing a US Olympic team jacket that had "U.S.A." printed across the back, and his face was clearly visible.

A statement accompanying formal charges said that police identified the three-time Olympian first by what appears to be an official team jacket bearing the large logo "USA" on the back and an arm patch that read "United States Olympic team."

Keller’s alleged participation in the Capitol protest was first reported this week by SwimSwam, a site covering competitive swimming and other aquatic sports.

Keller competed in the Olympics in 2000, 2004 and 2008, taking two golds and a silver in the 4x200 meter freestyle relays, and two bronzes in the individual 400 meter freestyle.

Keller was a vocal supporter of President Donald Tump

Keller had a troubled life post-Olympic life.

In interviews with the Olympic Channel podcast and USA Swimming, he admitted to being a poor employee and feeling entitled because of his athletic success. His personal problems resulted in a divorce that left him homeless and a loss of visitation rights that prevented him from seeing his children for four years.
