To attract more women passengers and make their journey comfortable, the Western Railway (WR) has painted the interiors of two coaches reserved for women of the suburban trains with eye-catching scenic views, reports Hindustan Times.

Under a project ‘Hamara Station-Hamari Shaan’, the interiors of the coach were given a makeover at the Mahalaxmi Workshop in a bid to make the local travel experience more pleasant, says WR spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar.

Sunil Nandgaonkar, an artist at the workshop, along with Vijay S Rajpoot, has created the paintings in the first and second class coaches reserved for women.

The WR’s AC trains’ ladies compartments had been painted with the picture of a smiling woman to make it easy for women to identify reserved coaches for them.

Beautification of suburban stations with decorative paintings on staircases, footbridges, booking office entrance-exits, signages and platforms and giving a vibrant, soothing and colourful ambience for the commuting millions are an ongoing project, said the WR spokesperson.

Around 8.5 million commuters use the suburban trains daily in Mumbai.
