Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has achieved yet another feat. Being one of the busiest airports in the world, the airport has clocked the highest on-time performance (OTP) among the top 20 airports in the world which handle the maximum number of passengers.

Financial Express reported the data released by OAG, a UK-based air travel consulting company. In August, IGI achieved the highest punctuality in the current year with an OTP of 82.9 per cent. This stands for the flights either arriving or departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

The Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) makes sure of the smooth handling of operations at the airport. AOCC has a performance committee involving all stakeholders oversees faster decision making. According to the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), IGI handled 19,748 flight movements in the month of August.

Last year, the IGI airport handled a whopping 6.3 crore passengers, making its way to the list of top 20 busiest airports in the world. This year they hope to cross the seven crore mark.

The other airports in India with high OTPs are Hubli, Mangaluru and Vadodara.
