The Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress has unveiled a statue of Communist leader Lenin in Kharagpur, ahead of the assembly elections in the state, Hindustan Times has reported.
This statue has been unveiled by Trinamool MLA Pradeep Sarkar at the town's Lenin Park in presence of left leaders.
The MLA claimed that Lenin is not associated with one party, and called the Communist leader an "inspiration for hardworking people across the world. He also claimed that the TMC looks beyond party narrow-mindedness and thus invited the left leaders.
Incidentally this development comes at a time when TMC leaders have been asking the left parties and the Congress to back Mamata Banerjee to fight the BJP.
"If the Left Front and the Congress are genuinely anti-BJP, they should rally behind Mamata Banerjee in her fight against the communal and divisive politics of the saffron party", TMC MP Sougata Roy had said.
The appeasement of Lenin by the TMC may be considered ironic by many, as the party's rise to power in Bengal was a result of its political fight against the entrenched CPM and left parties.
