One Flag, One Constitution: Modi Government Set To Sign Naga Peace Agreement, Putting End To 22 Years Of Negotiations

The Government of India is set to sign the much talked about Naga Pact which is an outcome of over 80 rounds of negotiations held between the central government and the NSCN-IM, reports News18.
Asserting that the government stands determined to sign the pact at the earliest without any delay or further negotiations under the shadow of the gun, the Governor of Nagaland and the government's interlocutor RN Ravi said that a mutually agreed-upon draft of the settlement agreement is ready for inking.
Governor Ravi though also shared that the NSCN-IM is trying to delay the settlement by raising the issues related to a separate flag and constitution for Nagas which the Government of India stands strongly against on the rationale of one flag and constitution for the entire nation.
To iron out the issues, creating bottlenecks for the passage of the agreement, the interlocutors from the two sides held a crucial meeting on 18 October in Kohima.
The meeting was attended by the leadership of all the 18 tribes of Nagaland, all the minority non-Naga tribes of Nagaland, the Nagaland Gaon Burha Federation, the Nagaland Tribes Council, church leaders and civil society organisations.
It should be noted that the Government of India aims to get the agreement signed by 31 October, putting an end to the prolonged negotiations which have stretched on for over 22 years.
