Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor has been allowed to travel to Switzerland by a Delhi court, Press Trust of India has reported.

Tharoor is currently out on bail in connection with the death of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar. She was found dead in a room at Delhi’s Hotel Leela Palace on 17 January 2014. A Delhi police chargesheet claims that she died due to an overdose of anti-depressant pills.

Tharoor has been charged with cruelty and abetting the suicide of his late wife. After the charges were framed under sections 306 and 498A of the IMC, additional chief metropolitan magistrate Samar Vishal observed that there was sufficient ground to proceeded against Tharoor.

On Monday, the additional chief metropolitan magistrate allowed him to travel to Geneva in Switzerland. The report claimed that Tharoor is flying there to condole the death of former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan and seek international aid for victims of Kerala.

Following the plea by his lawyers, the judge ruled that he is allowing the visit and asked them to inform the investigating officer about Tharoor’s schedule. Tharoor is expected to leave today evening (20 August) and return the next day (21 August).
