Pakistan Bans Five Dating And Live Streaming Apps Including Tinder Citing 'Immoral' And 'Indecent' Content

The Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan-led Islamic Republic of Pakistan yesterday (1 September) announced a ban on five online dating and live streaming mobile applications, reports Indian Express.
Citing "negative effects for immoral/indecent" content streaming through the applications, Pakistan decreed a ban on Tinder, Tagged, Skout, Grindr and SayHi platforms. It should be noted that while others are online dating platforms, Tagged and SayHi are social networking platforms.
Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has in its press release stated that it had issued notices the managements of the aforementioned platforms to remove dating services and to moderate live streaming in line with local laws, but received no response.
Pakistan had earlier also banned live streaming platform Bigo, and also the online gaming application PUBG. Later, in July earlier this year, the country lifted the ban imposed on PUBG which has its parent company as Chinese technology behemoth Tencent.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has also issued a warning to TikTok over "obscene and immoral content on its platform."
