Pakistan Quotes Rahul Gandhi As Part Of Its Propaganda Claiming Excesses By Security Forces In Kashmir

Pakistan has written a letter claiming human rights violations in Kashmir by Indian security forces to different working groups and special rapporteurs of the Human Rights Council, an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system.

In the letter, Pakistan said that India has been committing human rights violations in Kashmir for over seven decades. The letter further states that the “unilateral action” to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir has exacerbated the human right abuses.

Pakistan called the step as “annexation by force” and therefore “illegal under international law”. It also said that the security forces had not allowed the people to congregate on the festival of Eid.

The letter says that due to “illegal” communication shutdown by the Government of India, it was difficult to report the violations in Kashmir. However, the letter notes, several reports from the “zone of occupation” continue to emerge highlighting the clash between the security forces and unarmed Kashmiris.

The letter quotes Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to justify its claim.

These, and other acts of violence have been acknowledged by mainstream politicians, such as the Leader of the Congress Party. Mr Rahul Gandhi, who has noted “people dying” in Jammu and Kashmir, in the light of “events going very wrong there”, the letter reads.

The letter seems to have quoted Rahul Gandhi from a video-clip he had shared himself on Twitter on 11 August.

In the clip, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “The reports have come that things in Jammu and Kashmir are going very wrong. There are reports of violence. There are reports of people dying in Jammu and Kashmir.”

“We are extremely concerned about the reports that are coming,” he says, urging the Government of India and the prime minister to make things “clear and transparent” with regards to Kashmir.
