In an interview with Al Jazeera, Pakistan Prime Minister clarified his position on the possibility of using nuclear weapons in a conflict with India; presenting a hypothetical scenario in which Pakistan was losing in conventional conflict with India, he said that he knew Pakistanis will fight to the death instead of surrendering.
Further explaining his statement, he said, “When a nuclear armed country fights to the end, to the death, it has consequences.”
However, paradoxically Khan still claimed that he was a pacifist and Pakistan would never start a nuclear armed conflict with India. He also asserted that it was because of this desire to avoid war that his country had continously tried to take the Kashmir issue to international forums.
The Kashmir issue has again seen rapidly worsening relations between India and Pakistan in the last few weeks, as the former ended Jammu and Kashmir’s special status by revoking Article 370 and the latter took a position against the same.
