Union defence ministry officials have confirmed that Pakistani F-16 jets intruded into the Indian sovereign airspace to target military installations and violated Geneva conventions by mistreating the captured Indian Air Force pilot, reports ANI.

Also according to the defence ministry, Pakistan’s military complex provides ‘active support’ to Pakistan-backed terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). This group has claimed responsibility for the 14 February (2019) suicide attack in Pulwama that killed 44 CRPF Indian jawans.

Deadliest Group

Since its inception in 2000, JeM, headed by Masood Azhar, has carried out several acts of terrorism in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It aims to free the state from India’s hold and then use J&K as a launchpad to wage jihad in other parts of India. This was to be undertaken to drive away Hindus and other non-Muslims away from the Indian subcontinent.

Counter-terrorism experts state that JeM was created with the help of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Through outfits like JeM, LeT and others, Pakistan has continuously used terrorism as an instrument of state policy to destabilise India.

The group was responsible for several terror attacks like the 2001 attack on Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly, 2001 Indian Parliament attack, 2016 Pathankot airbase attack and 2016 Uri attack.

Jaish-e-Mohammed is viewed as the "deadliest" and "the principal terrorist organisation in Jammu and Kashmir."
