Pakistani has decided to to rake up the Kashmir issue during the weeks leading to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the United Nations General Assembly next month, reports The New Indian Express.
According to the report, the development came after Pakistani Prime Minister chaired a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (20 August).
During the Cabinet meeting, Khan emphasised that Kashmir was the first line of defence for Pakistan, said Firdous Ashiq Awan, Pakistan PM’s special assistant on information.
Awan said that PM Modi would address the UN General Assembly on 27 September ahead of Khan. She added that if India refused to lift the ‘curfew’ in Kashmir, Pakistan will pursue the matter on international forums as per the international law and norms.
The Pakistani Cabinet has also in principle approved taking the Kashmir matter in the International Court of Justice.
The tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after New Delhi scrapped provisions of Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories. The move by India evoked strong reactions from Pakistan.
In the aftermath of the decision, India categorically told the international community that the measures it has taken regarding J&K was an internal matter and also advised Pakistan to accept the reality.
