A special court in Maharashtra's Thane yesterday (16 January) granted bail to 89 people accused in the case of the dastardly lynching of two Hindu seers and their driver in April 2020 in State's Palghar district, reports Times of India.

After hearing the arguments for bail of the 89 accused in the case on bygone 6 January, District Judge SB Bahalkar decided to release the accused people on a bail of Rs 15,000 each and surety.

The bail relief for 89 accused in the case comes after the Special Public Prosecutor Satish Maneshinde told the court that the accused seeking bail were present at the crime scene but played no active role in the crime.

The police had after the incident filed a case against more than 500 unidentified people from the tribal villages of the State's Kasa under charges of murder and other sections. In total, 246 were accused in the brutal case of lynching. However, 115 of them are already out on bail and the new order paves the way for the release of 89 more.
