Panjab University Research Team Uses Cosmetic Traces Of Eyeliner, Mascara To Identify Suspects In Crimes Against Women

Researchers from Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology, Panjab University, have found that traces from cosmetic products like eyeliner mascara can help to prove a crime committed against woman.
After one year of research using spectroscopy, the research team of Prof Vishal Sharma and Tanya Arora found that cosmetic samples can positively link the suspect to the victim with 95 per cent success rate.
The interesting thing is that the whole test will only take five to ten minutes to complete. The paper has been published in Micro Chemical Journal-Elsevier.
Dainik Jagran quoted Prof Sharma as saying that they used samples of 102 brands of mascara and eyeliners. Forty samples of cosmetic products were taken randomly whose qualities were unknown, yet the success rate of the match was high.
He added that the new technique is expected to be very helpful in identifying those who commit crimes against women and bringing them to justice.
