Partnering With The Leaders: Indo-German Collaboration Aims To Create High-Tech Mobility Solutions For India

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have established a joint research centre within the IIT campus to focus on researching high-tech mobility solutions for India as well as the global market, reports the Times of India.
Electronics and software see more than 90 per cent of innovation in the automotive and now with an Indo-German collaboration on the cards, it will create new technologies and solutions for India and also the global market, an expert said on Monday (29 October).
"The focus of innovation today is on intelligent software for safety, driver assistance, comfort and entertainment. Combining the software and Artificial Intelligence (AI) expertise of India with the manufacturing leadership of Germany can bring about transformational benefits to both the countries," said Pallab Dasgupta, IIT Kharagpur's the Dean of Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy.
A two-day workshop organised by IIT Kharagpur and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) also began on Monday. This happens in the context of the newly-established Indo-German Collaborative Research Centre on Intelligent Transportation Systems. The information transport system is a collaboration centre of the IIT and TUM located within the campus in Kharagpur.
Dasgupta also spoke about India’s mobility landscape and the rapid transformation in process. "On one hand the existing modalities of transportation have their unique challenges, and on the other hand it is great opportunities for both Indian and German industries and them to work together,” he said.
The Indo-German Science and Technology Center (IGSTC) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has shown its support for the workshop. It brings together various transportation experts from Indian and German academia and industry, as well as policymakers and law enforcement agencies.
There will be discussions of potential solutions in the domains of next-generation vehicular technologies which will include Intelligent Solutions for Transportation Integration, Technologies for Electric Vehicles and Batteries, and Systems and Software Challenges.
