Sales of cars hit a record last fiscal as the number of cars Indian roads zoom.
In a positive development, the passenger vehicle wholesale sales in the markets registered a whopping 26 per cent jump year-on-year (YOY) in the bygone month of September, surging from the figure of 2,15,124 units to 2,72,027 units, reports Hindu Businessline.
This marks the second consecutive month in which the sales have grown in the segment. In August month as well, the segment had posted robust growth in sales.
As per the data made public by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the wholesale sales of passenger cars grew by 29 per cent YOY, while the figure for two-wheeler sales surged by 11 per cent YOY in September. Among two-wheeler sub-segment, while wholesale sales of motorcycles grew by healthy 17 per cent YOY, the wholesale sales of scooters showed marginal growth.
It should also be noted that on a quarterly basis, the wholesale sales of passenger vehicles have surged by 17 per cent YOY in the July-September quarter.
Meanwhile, the wholesale sales of commercial vehicles remain subdued. The segment saw wholesale sales dip by 20 per cent in the July-September quarter. While the wholesale sales stood at 1,67,173 units in the same period last year, this year the figure has fallen to 1,33,524 units.
