Patidar Community Collects Rs 150 Crore In Three Hours For Ahmedabad Temple

In a path-breaking case of crowd-sourcing for a community temple, the Patidars in Gujarat have, in a matter of just three hours, raised Rs 150 crore to fund the construction of a shrine for Umiya Mata, who is considered their kula devi, a report in Times of India says. The amount was raised at a meet organised by the Vishva Umiya Foundation, which plans to build a temple-cum-community complex on 40 acres in Ahmedabad. The project is expected to be completed by 2024.
The Rs 1,000-crore project is expected to be dedicated to Umiya Mata, who is worshipped by the Kadva Patidars, one of the two sects that comprise the Patidar sub-caste. As per the plan of action, the complex will house a hospital and healthcare set-up, a sports and cultural complex and an educational complex including hostels for boys and girls.
Of this multi-crore commitment, the lion’s share of Rs 51 crore has been pledged by a Mumbai-based Patel family which is into real estate business.
The realtor brothers, Mangal and Naran Patel, have launched several projects across the city of Mumbai. The brothers are also believed to have donated Rs 71 lakh for the Umiya Dham in Haridwar.
