“If you are corrupt, I will fetch you with a helicopter and I will throw you out on the way to Manila,” the Philippine Star newspaper quoted Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte as saying recently. “I have done that before, why should I not do it again?” He was delivering a speech in Camarines Sur province while on a visit of areas affected by Typhoon Nina, reported Russia Today.

Ever since he took office, Duterte has been ruthless in his fight against drug dealers and addicts. According to estimates of the Philippine National Police (PNP), over 3,800 people have been killed by either vigilantes or police since July. Now it seems like Duterte will be taking the hard fight to corruption as well; he said during his speech that his anti-corruption campaign would also assume top priority during his presidential term.

Duterte admitted earlier this month to personally killing suspected criminals when he was Mayor of Davos. The Philippines Commission on Human Rights took notice and said it would investigate Duterte’s confession. As the Philippine president continues to make these remarks, like saying he was behind the Davao Death Squad and calling President Barack Obama “son of a bitch”, among many others, many wonder whether he is telling the truth or simply indulging in hyperbole to make a point.
