Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on a three-day visit to Bangkok where he will attend the 16th ASEAN-India Summit on 3 November and the 14th East Asia Summit and the third RCEP Summit on 4 November.

During the visit, Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with a number of other world leaders present at Bangkok.

PM Modi is also going to address the Indian community in Bangkok at an event titled ‘Sawasdee PM Modi’ at 6 pm India time today (2 November), reports Hindustan TImes.

“Sawasdee”, derived from Sanskrit word svasti (well-being), is a word Thai people use for greetings and goodbyes.

Speaking about the event he was reported saying that people of Indian origin, and Non-Resident Indians have made significant contributions to Thailand and to the important relationship India shares with the Kingdom of Thailand.

Apart from the attending the event, PM Modi will also release a commemorative coin marking the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, as well as the Thai translation of Tamil classic ‘Tirukkural’, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday (31 October).
