PM Modi To Inaugurate Nine New Medical Colleges In UP, Total Medical Colleges Increase 4 Times In Past 5 Years

In a big push for medical education and healthcare sectors in Uttar Pradesh (UP), Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate nine new medical colleges in the State on coming 9 July, reports Times of India.
All nine colleges will become functional in a week's time and take the total number of medical colleges in the State up significantly to the count of 48. These new colleges are based in Deoria, Etah, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh and Siddharthnagar.
For the nine new colleges, the selection of 70 per cent of the faculty members has been finalised and the process for selection of the remaining faculties is presently underway. PM Modi will be handing over the appointment letters to 450 staff members of these colleges himself.
In addition to these 48 colleges, four more will be functional by the end of the year.
It should be noted that Uttar Pradesh had only 12 medical colleges till March 2017. Since the Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath led Government came in power, 36 new medical colleges have been added to the State.
CM Yogi Adityanath had earlier announced that there should be a medical college in each district to prevent patients from travelling to other districts for treatment, the statement said.
