PM Modi
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi appealed to the people to not be ‘selective’ whilst raising issues of human rights as he addressed the 28th anniversary function of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
PM Modi mentioned that some people see the violation of human rights in a particular incident but also ignore the same in other similar cases.
“There is an aspect of human rights that I want to discuss today. These days, we see that people have started interpreting human rights in a way that benefits them,” the PM was quoted in a report by the Hindustan Times.
He added, “However, these rights are grossly violated when these are looked at from a political lens. This selective behaviour is harmful for our democracy.”
PM Modi asserted that such kind of mentality harms the very concept of human rights.
The 71-year-old leader further expressed that the respect for human rights in India stems from the long freedom struggle that the country has gone through.
He suggested that India has fought for its rights across centuries as the country as well as our society always protested against both injustice and tyranny.
