Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (10 July) unveiled to the nation Asia’s largest solar power plant.
Situated in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, the 750-megawatt “game-changer” Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project, Asia’s largest was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister via video conferencing, reports Hindustan Times.
As per government sources, the mega power project will reduce emission equivalent to approximately 15 lakh tonne of carbon dioxide every year.
“Solar energy is going to be a major medium of energy needs not only today but in the 21st century. Because solar energy is sure, pure and secure,” the Prime Minister said.
“Today, Rewa has really scripted history. Rewa is identified with the name of mother Narmada and the white tiger. Now, the name of Asia’s largest solar power project has also been added,” he added.
In the virtual inauguration ceremony Madhya Pradesh’s Governor Anandiben Patel, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union minister of new and renewable energy RK Singh and oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan were also present.
It should be noted that PM Modi has set the national goal to achieve the establishment of 100 GW of solar power generation capacity by 2022 when India will complete 75 years of its Independence from British rule.
The inauguration of the ultra mega solar plant in Rewa will add to the progress made in that direction as India continues to tread on a path aiming at greater reliance on environment-friendly and renewable energy sources.
