As protesters gathered outside the White House on Friday (May 29), US President Donald Trump had to be rushed by secret service agents to an underground bunker for a period of time, CNN reported.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the White House with some of them turning violent as they hurled rocks and tugged at police barricades.

CNN reported quoting an unidentified law enforcement official as saying that that first lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, were also taken to the bunker as a precautionary measure.

Trump spent nearly an hour in the bunker, which was designed for use in emergencies like terrorist attacks.

Secret Service was said to have turned apprehensive about Trump’s safety Friday night and decided to take him to the underground bunk as protesters clashed with police near the White House.

“The White House does not comment on security protocols and decisions,” said White House spokesman Judd Deere. The Secret Service said it does not discuss the means and methods of its protective operations.

On Saturday, Trump traveled to Florida to witness the first manned space launch of SpaceX shuttle from the U.S in nearly a decade.

Violent protests over the death of George Floyd, a black American, has gripped several cities across the US.
