Chances of fresh feuds erupting in the Samajwadi Party have increased after the recent statements of party chairman and founder, Mulayam Singh Yadav. Ignoring party president Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam declared that SP would support NDA’s candidate in the upcoming presidential polls.
The announcement from Yadav came after Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu met him on Friday.
This report in Dainik Jagran claims that even as Mulayam has made his statements, it is unlikely that Akhilesh Yadav will let his party go against the Congress-nominated candidate, in the event the Sonia Gandhi-led party does announce one.
Even so, this apparent unilateral announcement by Mulayam proves that the SP’s rout in the recent assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh did nothing to bridge the gap between father and son.
Regardless, it would now be interesting to watch which way SP ultimately votes in the presidential elections.
