Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Clears Dues For Her Lutyens Delhi Bungalow A Day After Govt Issues Notice To Vacate

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has cleared her pending dues for the government accommodation at 35, Lodhi Estate in Delhi, reports DNA.

The move comes a day after the central government asked her to vacate the government accommodation in Lutyens Delhi as she was no longer protected by the Special Protection Group (SPG).

Confirming the development, a spokesperson from Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said, "Ms Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has made online payment of balance amount due on her. Hence, now dues as on 30.06.2020 is nil against her."

According to the reports, Gandhi had dues of Rs 3,46,677 as on June 30, for which she was issued a notice to clear this due amount. Mrs Vadra had not paid rent for her govt house for almost a year.

It should be noted that earlier on Wednesday (1 July), Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was asked to vacate her government accommodation at 35, Lodhi Estate, which she was continuing to live in despite removal of SPG cover in November last year.

"Consequent upon withdrawal of SPG protection and grant of Z+ security cover by Ministry of Home Affairs, which does not have provision for allotment/retention of government accommodation on security ground to you, the allotment of Type 6B house number 35, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi is hereby cancelled with effect from 01/07/2020," said the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs 's notice stated.

The notice was based on a decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on accommodation after the government had reclassified her security to ‘Z’ category. She was earlier protected under the SPG (Special Protection Group) category. Priyanka Gandhi Vadrawas allotted the Lodhi Estate bungalow in 1997 on the recommendation of the SPG.

Z+ security cover category does not provide protectees access to government accommodation unless the cabinet committee approves the exception on the recommendation of the home ministry.
