The urban local body polls (ULB) in Nagaland has morphed into a violent political slug-fest today with protesters torching many government buildings located in the Old secretariat complex in Kohima. "Protesters thousands in number marched to the secretariat building and the office of the Municipal Council and District Commissioner were set ablaze," eye-witnesses said to Times Of India.

The government has blackedout all mobile internet services in the state and the urban polls that were scheduled for 1 February is now called off. The protest began with tribal bodies are opposing the state government decision of granting 33 per cent reservation for women in the ULB. Two persons were killed in police firing in Dimapur on Tuesday. The protestors have hailed the two youths, Khriesavizo Avizo Metha and Bendangnungsang as "martyrs", who died for protecting the rights of the Nagas.
