Pulwama Attack: Anti-India Posts Lead To FIR Against Three Kashmiri Girls In Bareilly, Arrest Of Saharanpur Man

Uttar Pradesh police in Bareilly has lodged an FIR against three female Kashmiri students of the city’s Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) for allegedly posting derogatory WhatsApp messages against the Indian Army in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack on a CRPF convoy, reports The Indian Express. A man in Saharanpur has also been picked up by authorities over anti-India remarks posted on Facebook.
The matter in Bareilly was brought to light by leaders of the BJP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad who went to the Izzatnagar police station on Thursday (21 February) to file a complaint against the accused persons.
“An FIR under Section 66-A of IT Act (punishment for sending offensive messages through communication service) has been lodged on the basis of the complaint by Amit Sharma, VHP’s Bareilly unit vice-president, at Izzatnagar police station but no action has been taken so far. We will first conduct a probe and then decide the nature of punishment,” SP (city) Bareilly Abhinandan Singh stated.
Workers of an outfit called the Hindu Shakti Dal in the town have also been demanding that Kashmiris there be sent back, and have given a two-day deadline to that effect to the Bareilly police. They have threatened to start a start agitation if their demand is not fulfilled.
In Saharanpur, 26-year-old Eesam Mainwal has been booked and taken into custody for anti-India slogans allegedly posted by him on Facebook. He is accused of criminal acts under Sections 505 (1) (b) and 153-B of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with remarks intended to cause fear or alarm among the public and statements going against national integration respectively.
