Expressing confidence that the situation in Kashmir would normalise soon, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday (12 August) hosted 125 Kashmiri students enrolled at different colleges and universities across the state on the occasion of Eid, reports The Hindu.

Singh invited the students to Punjab Bhawan as they could not celebrate the festival with their families back home in Kashmir Valley, where there are restrictions in place to avoid any untoward incident in the aftermath of scrapping of Article 370.

The initiative from Singh, according to many students, made Eid in the tense times an occasion to cherish and feel at home. Meanwhile, CM Singh told the students that he considered Kashmir his second home.

"We can not replace your families. But, I hope you consider us as your family too," Singh said to the students. The Chief Minister said he was confident their families back home were safe and they would be able to meet them soon.

The students presented Singh with a potrait made by a fine Arts Kashmir student from Chandigarh University as a memento.
