Punjab: Reliance Moves High Court Seeking Immediate Intervention Against Attacks On Jio Towers

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will move to the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking “immediate intervention” with respect to a section of the farmers allegedly targeting Jio Infocomm’s towers in the state, Hindustan Times reports.
“Reliance Industries Limited, through its subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, in a petition mentioned to be filed in Punjab and Haryana High Court today, has sought urgent intervention of govt authorities to bring a complete stop to illegal acts of vandalism by miscreants,” the Mukesh Ambani-led company was quoted by ANI.
RIL further mentioned, “These acts of violence have endangered the lives of thousands of employees and caused damage and disruption to the vital communications infrastructure. The miscreants indulging in vandalism have been instigated and aided by vested interests and our business rivals.”
The company further clarified that it has not acquired any land in India for contract or corporate farming and do not plan on entering the sector. In fact, RIL even insisted the suppliers to abide by the Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism. The conglomerate further expressed gratitude to the farmers in the statement and referred to them as the annadaatas of the country.
Jio has 9,000 towers in Punjab and farmers vandalised around 1,500 of them amidst the ongoing protests against the three farm laws. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh ordered police action against the miscreants after his earlier appeals calling for an end of this vandalism to towers fell on deaf years.
