QS World University Ranking 2020: MIT Tops The List, 23 Indian Universities In Top 1000; IIT Bombay Rated Best

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has again been named the world’s top university in the QS World University Rankings for 2020, which were announced yesterday (20 June).
This is the eighth year in a row that MIT has bagged this distinction. The second spot was taken by Stanford University.
Harvard and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) stood at third and fourth position on the list respectively. National University of Singapore was the top Asian university in the list at eleventh position.
The QS rankings, published by Quacquarelli Symonds, an organisation specialising in education and study abroad, is based on a set of criteria including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, proportion of international faculty and proportion of international students.
MIT earned a perfect overall score of 100. The ranking features 1,000 of the world's finest universities.
IIT-Bombay retained its rank as India’s best university for the second year in a row, finishing with a global ranking of 152 in the QS World University Rankings 2020.
Two other Indian universities - IIT Delhi (182) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (184) - also figured in the Top 200. IIT Bombay had bagged the 179 rank in 2019 and 162 rank in 2018.
“It is a proud moment that in the prestigious QS ranking, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi and IISc Bangalore have been included in the list of top 200 global universities,” tweeted Minister for Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
There are a total of 23 Indian institutions in the top 1,000. While most are government-funded universities, five are privately funded.
