A temple priest in Rajasthan was burnt alive by members of the land mafia after he resisted their attempt to encroach upon the temple land, reports Times Now.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. The incident happened in Bukhna village which falls under Rajasthan's Karauli district.

As per reports, the 50-year-old priest was trying to build a house on a land given by the community in the temple's name. The land mafia though wanted to encroach upon this land and in a scuffle six individuals poured petrol and kerosene on the priest and set him ablaze which led to him suffering over 50 per cent burn injuries.

The priest was rushed to a Jaipur hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

As per an ANI report, the main accused in the matter Kailash Meena has been arrested by the cops. The report claims that Meena wanted to grab the land which fell inside the temple premises and on Thursday (8 October) started building a tent. It claims that after objections by the priest the mafia set the tent on fire, whose flames also engulfed the priest.

The search for other accused is still underway.
