The Shirdi Airport in Maharastra has completed its one year of operation.
Residents of Bengaluru can soon make an air journey to the holy town of Shirdi in Maharashtra. Shirdi International Airport completed one year of its operations on Monday, 1 October with Maharastra CM announcing that direct flights to the city from Bengaluru, Indore and Ahmedabad were in the works.
It has now been reported by Bangalore Mirror that flights between Bengaluru and Shirdi will become operational by the end of October.
The winter schedule of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will be effective starting 28 October. There are talks that SpiceJet might be the first airlines to operate flights on the route, as per the winter schedule.
Being the first airline to establish air connectivity between Delhi and Shirdi on a daily basis with direct flights, Spicejet has already registered its space at the Shirdi airport. The Shirdi-Delhi-Shirdi flights commenced yesterday, 1 October.
Prior to the opening of air services, passengers had to use road or the rail route to get to Shirdi. About 60,000 people visit Shirdi everyday, mainly for pilgrimage.
