Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani at a Jio event (digit.in)
Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio has started its 5G trials in Mumbai with the help of its indigenously developed equipment and technology, Economic Times has reported.
Jio will also start the 5G trials in other cities by collaborating with top tech vendors like Samsung, Nokia and Ericsson.
"The network went live quickly after receiving a trial spectrum from the DoT. We are using both mid and mmwave bands with standalone architecture for 5G trials in Mumbai", a Reliance executive has been quoted as saying.
The executive has also claimed that the scale of Jio's trial in Mumbai is much bigger than its rivals.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has allocated 5G trial spectrum in the 700 Mhz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands to Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi) to develop India-relevant use cases on the next-gen fast wireless broadband technology.
Reliance has already completed the testing of its 5G radio and core solutions.
