An expert panel has submitted its report containing recommendations on the improvement of the education sector in Kerala, to the state government, says The New Indian Express. Among the suggestions are upgrade of professional qualifications of teachers and also bracketing the school education sector under a single directorate.
The panel, headed by M A Khader, had been tasked with redesigning school education in Kerala. The report has now reached Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s desk. The panel recommends that the Directorate of Public Instruction and Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary Directorates be brought under a single umbrella so that control is much stronger and coordination becomes easier.
The panel also suggested that teachers be professionals and the qualification requirements upgraded to ensure improved standards. Until children join schools, it is suggested that the state government make arrangements for their pre-schooling. It also called for a policy on pre-schooling, The Indian Express reported.
Additionally, scientific training in arts and sports has been recommended for students between classes V and XII.
