An area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district has received power supply for the first time. Interestingly, this was made possible only because the area got a road connecting it to the rest of the state only recently.

News agency ANI has reported that Narla Bambal area, which is some 115 kilometres from Rajouri city, got electricity under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay scheme. Recently, it got a new road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna.

As per a Dainik Jagran report, there were about 30 colonies in four villages in the area namely Keri Khabbas, Gunda Khabbas, Bela Khabba and Deri where electricity had not reached. A total of 676 families were affected. The report says that residents were still using kerosene lamps. Even to charge their mobile phones, they were forced to travel to nearby villages. No house in these colonies owned a television, obviously.

As per villagers, the initiative to bring in road and electricity was taken by the district collector of Rajouri Dr Shahid Chowdhary. He told ANI, "All the developmental works in these areas can now be done without any problem."
