Three constables of the Railway Police Force (RPF) have arrested around 15 Rohingyas, who entered illegally, from the Badarpur Railway Station in the Karimganj district of Assam on Saturday. The RPF people intercepted this group as they were sitting at the platform No.1 of the railway station.

The RPF subsequently recovered about nine mobile phones, cash worth Rs 50,000 and three identity cards that were issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from this group.

The Rohingyas had reached Badarpur from Siliguri and were staying at a local hotel over there. They were set to board a train to Agartala and had tickets with them before being caught by the RPF constables. As per sources, they were staying in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh and had reached Siliguri earlier this week.

“At around 9:00 am we noticed that a group of people was seated at the platform, their language and activities were different. During our regular checkup, we asked them to show tickets and documents, but they failed to show tickets or any valid Indian document. With the available documents, it was found that they were citizens of Myanmar who illegally entered Indian territory. They could not buy tickets because of a lack of Indian documents. We handed them over to Karimganj police after that,” said an official.

The individuals have been identified as follows: Zainab Begum (30), Mohhad Sayed (30), Shuna Meher (28), Mohammed Ayub (28), Mohammed Rafik (19), Kausar (19), Subeira (18), Mohammed Ismail (16), Mohammed Anis (14), Dilara (9), Noor Ajida (7), Rafia (7), Mohammed Islam (6), Muslim (5) and Noor Fatema (3).

They have now been handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation purposes, Times of India reports.
