Rs 133-Crore Taxpayer Money Lost To Opposition's Disruptions In Parliament In Ongoing Monsoon Session

The opposition’s constant disruptions on issues such as the Pegasus snooping and the farm laws has led to the Parliament functioning for only 18 out of the total scheduled 107 hours so far in the monsoon session set to conclude on 13 August.
This has resulted in a loss of over Rs 133 crore of taxpayer’s money. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have operated for merely 13 per cent and 21 per cent of its total scheduled time so far.
“Lok Sabha has only been allowed to function for about seven hours out of possible 54 hours. Rajya Sabha has been allowed to function for 11 hours out of possible 53 hours. So far Parliament has functioned only 18 hours out of possible 107 hours (16.8 percent),” sources from the government were quoted in a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
However, the government has managed to maintain certain efficiency in its operations irrespective of the presence of an unruly opposition.
The Lok Sabha has passed as many as five bills along with other appropriation bills and the Rajya Sabha has also followed the lower house closely.
