The central government has spent Rs 2,65,513 crore for infrastructure development projects in north-east India from March 2014-March 2021.

Nityanand Rai, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, made this revelation whilst addressing a seminar conducted by the Assam Rifles in New Delhi.

“North East region was neglected because overall development of the country was seen in segments. The vast potential of this sector will be unleashed by creating modern infrastructure and improving connectivity,” Rai was quoted in a report by The Economic Times.

He added, “Today national development is being seen with the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. Development is now considered synonymous with the unity and integrity of the country.”

Rai asserted that sizable progress had been achieved concerning peace, development and employment in the whole region. He added that financial stability had been achieved due to enhanced connectivity to the northeast.

The MoS also hailed the efforts of the Assam Rifles as he disclosed that they had seized narcotic substances and drugs worth Rs 1,500 crore in the last year itself.
