With the Winter Session of the Parliament set to witness the introduction of Citizenship Amendment Bill by the Union Government, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteers have fanned out in different parts of northeastern states to explain the rationale behind the Bill to the masses, reports The Economic Times.

The move by RSS volunteers comes at a time when several groups in the region have been raising concerns against the prospects of the Bill, with the opposition also up in arms against the Government on the move.

Delving into the matter, a senior leader of the RSS said that volunteers have already begun reaching out to villages with leaflets which elaborate in vernacular tongue why the bill is necessary and how it will not have any impact on the indigenous people as asserted by protesting groups.

It should be noted that the Citizenship Amendment Bill was a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s election manifesto, and the party had also tried to pass the bill towards the end of the previous Lok Sabha. The bill was passed in the lower house on 8 January, 2019, but was never tabled in the upper house.
