Hours after Mukul Upadhyay, former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), was expelled from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Friday, he alleged that Mayawati had demanded Rs 5 crore to give him the Lok Sabha ticket from Aligarh constituency.
The BSP has refuted all the allegations saying that the party had to expel him because Upadhyay was trying to defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The expelled leader is the younger brother of former power minister Ramveer Upadhyay, who has been accused by the former that his brother plotted against him for political ambition and wanted to get the Aligarh Lok Sabha ticket of the party for his wife Seema and, therefore, conspired against him.
The rebel leader also alleged that party coordinators had asked him a few days back to deposit Rs 5 crore for the party fund in lieu of the Aligarh parliamentary constituency ticket. He also threatened to "expose" his brother and other BSP bigwigs, reports News18.
The Upadhyay clan is actively involved in politics where four brothers are politicians and the other two are in state government service. This infighting has created severe disturbance amongst people in western Uttar Pradesh.
