Ministry of Home Affairs has slammed Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his comments made on the Special Protection Group (SPG) Chief. During an interaction at New Delhi on Saturday, September 22, Rahul Gandhi said, “The SPG Chief appointed by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had to quit because he refused to accept a list of SPG officers handpicked by the RSS.”

According to a press release sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the former Director of SPG Vivek Srivastava has stated explicitly that he didn’t have a conversation of that nature with Rahul Gandhi at any point of time.

The press release which is now available on the PIB website states that there would have been interaction with SPG protectees, but the claims of Mr Gandhi have been said to be completely false and misleading.

The Special Protection Group consisting of some of the best officers from the armed forces is a team that is tasked to protect the Prime Minister, former PMs and their families in the highest professional conduct. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had made a statement wherein he hinted that the SPG chief had to step-down because he was not willing to accept the recommendations made by the RSS.

However, the Home Ministry clarified that the statement is ‘baseless, devoid of fact and unfortunate.’
