The world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhai Patel is now open to the public. Also known as the Statue of Unity, India has added another destination to visit among the thousands already present in the country.
The 600-foot-tall statue is located in the Narmada district of Gujarat and is three-and-a half kilometres away from Kevadia town and about 200 km from Ahmedabad. The statue now adds to the growing list of tourism spots in Gujarat, which already consists of the Great Rann of Kutch and the Gandhi circuit which are big attractions.
Despite located in a remote corner of the state, the Gujarat government has already started promotion of the Statue of Unity as a major tourism destination. On an average, they are expecting around 15,000 visitors daily at the site.
The statue is twice the size of the Statue of Liberty in New York and, hence, is expected to attract many foreign visitors apart from domestic ones. Visitors can reach up to the observational deck, located at 400 feet high, which is more than half of the statue.
People planning to visit the Statue of Unity can book tickets via two methods - online and offline, or on the spot. There is a maximum of 1,500 tickets available through the Statue of Unity website. On-the-spot tickets are available when the gates open in the morning. The best view of the statue comes at 400-feet-high at the observational deck. A ticket to reach there will cost you Rs 350. It includes the Observation Deck view, Valley of Flowers, Memorial, Museum & Audio Visual Gallery as well as bus service. The observational deck view is reached through a high-speed elevator, and you can witness the panoramic view of the entire Narmada valley, surrounding hills and the Sardar Sarovar dam.
There is also a regular entry ticket through which one can visit the Valley of Flowers, Memorial, Museum & Audio Visual Gallery. This will not include the observational deck. It costs Rs 120 for adults and Rs 60 for kids between 3-15 years. This ticket is inclusive of bus fare. For toddlers under 3, entry is free. You can visit the statue any time between 9 am and 6 pm every day.
Boat rides are also set to begin soon. In the evenings, tourists can enjoy a 30-minute laser shows. Overnight stay is also possible, with rooms available at a 3-star hotel inside the complex.
