Save Money And The World: To Combat Pollution, Delhi Offers 10 Per Cent Discounts On Using Metro Cards In DTC Buses

In a move that can increase public transport utilisation amongst general public, Government of Delhi has approved a proposal that allows 10 per cent discount for those who use common mobility cards (metro cards) in DTC buses. The decision was taken and sanctioned by the Cabinet on Thursday, October 18.
Economic Times quoted Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia as saying, “This was necessary in view of rising air pollution to encourage more and more people to use public transport.” He has made appeals to the governments of Haryana, Punjab and the centre to adopt necessary steps to increase the quality of air in the northern part of the country, especially Delhi.
Recent satellite images have shown alarming levels of crop residue being burnt which could possibly lead to development of health hazards for those living in the region. Delhi’s Environment Minister Imran Hussain released a NASA image of north India to promote awareness on the subject.
Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been in effect since Monday, which has been designed to curb air pollution after it took cues from Central Pollution Control Board’s Air Quality Index.
