SC Dismisses Christian Org’s Demand To Postpone LS Polls As They Fall In ‘Holy Period Between Good Friday, Easter’

On Thursday (4 April) The Supreme Court of India refused to hear a case filed for re-scheduling of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A Christian body sought an urgent plea referring to Good Friday and said that they to pray. The elections fall within the holy period of Good Friday and Easter, Indian Express has reported.
Responding to the petitioner’s counsel, a bench headed by Justice S A Bobde asked: “You can’t cast your vote on a holy day?”.
“We don’t want to advise you how to pray and how to cast vote,” said the bench said while refusing to entertain the petition.
The same body also approached the Madras High Court for deferring the dates but was rejected there too. Many organisations and religious organisations have been approaching the apex court for having the elections postponed on various reasons, and thus far none of those requests has been heard.
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will vote in the second phase on 18 April. The second phase will also cover 97 constituencies across 13 states in Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
