The Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi on Tuesday (23 April) observed that it is not satisfied with Rahul Gandhi’s response in Meenakshi Lekhi’s criminal contempt petition against the Congress president, ANI has reported.

The apex court thus issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi and posted the matter for the next hearing on 30 April, Live Law has reported.

Senior counsel Mukul Rohtagi appearing on behalf of Meenakshi Lekhi told the court that the Congress president has not offered any apology which was countered by the defendant's lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi who said that Rahul Gandhi has expressed regret.

As reported earlier, Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his reply to the Supreme Court (SC) over BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi’s criminal contempt petition has ‘expressed regret’ for his fake comment claiming the SC has acknowledged that Chowkidar Chor Hai.

He claimed that this statement was made in the “heat of the political campaign”.

The SC subsequently had sent a notice to Rahul Gandhi instructing him to explain his statement. In an earlier hearing the apex court had observed that it had on “no occasion” made any such statement and had given the Congress president time till today (22 April) to file his written reply.
