In a major fillip to the Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Corridor, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has issued a tender for the designation of a group of experts who will oversee future work on the project, reports Financial Express.

Besides this, work on testing pressure tolerance of pillars prior to laying the corridor’s foundation has also been initiated. NCRTC Group General Manager Sudhir Sharma has stated that the specialist team will be tasked with supervising all future stages of the project.

The project has received the green light from both the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government. The Centre will bear expenditures worth Rs 6,000 crore and the UP is slated to raise Rs 5,000 crore.

The Delhi government though is yet to deliver on its share of Rs 1000 crore, and has, in fact, asked the Centre to pay it as well; the project has been in limbo for the past two years due to the Delhi government’s delay in granting a final approval.

Upon its completion, the rapid rail corridor will comprise of 18 stations spread across 90 km, of which 30 km will be underground and the rest will be based on an elevated construction.
