The tussle over government formation and power-sharing in Maharashtra between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena reached a new high on Sunday (3 November) after the Shiv Sena in an editorial published in its mouthpiece Saamna said that it may form the government in the State in an alliance with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Indian National Congress (INC), reports Asian News International (ANI).
The editorial said that if the BJP did not agree to Shiv Sena's demand of equal distribution of portfolios and also a 2.5-year-long shot at the Chief Ministerial (CM) post for Aaditya Thackeray, then the latter could join hands with the NCP and Congress party.
The editorial also said that the combination of Shiv Sena with NCP and Congress would reach a tally of 170 seats in the Assembly, which would make it eligible to form the Government, after BJP fails to prove its majority in the Assembly, given it is the largest party in the State by seats.
The Shiv Sena went on to say in the editorial that the BJP led by CM Devendra Fadnavis would not have secured a tally of 105 seats, had it not have allied with it prior to the elections.
